Before joining Plougmann & Vingtoft, Jan has worked as a post doc at the Department of Chemistry, University of Aarhus with main focus on studies of synthesis and modifications of peptides implicated in for example antibacterial activity, Alzheimer’s disease and diabetes. During his PhD, he worked with GlaxoSmithKline at their medicinal chemistry R&D facilities in Harlow, London where the research was aimed at developing synthetic methods towards medicinally relevant molecules. Jan is the author or co-author of 13 research papers in renowned international chemistry journals.
Jan has worked with biopharmaceutical- and pharmaceutical companies, universities, hospitals and technology transfer offices throughout the world within the areas of chemistry, medicine and biotechnology, and is experienced in drafting and prosecution of patent applications within those areas.
In addition, Jan is an experienced patent search analyst, with experience in patentability assessments, freedom-to-operate analyses (FTO), patent surveillances and due diligence analyses. Finally, Jan has specialised in the filing and prosecution of Supplementary Protection Certificate (SPC) applications in Europe and Denmark in particular. This includes advising on SPC practice in Denmark and on the European SPC legislation in general. The legal status of SPC’s in Denmark, Norway and Sweden is also provided.
