Matteo has expertise within the area of renewable energy in particular solar energy and has experience with electrochromic, photochromic and nanoelectronic devices.

He received his PhD from Ferrara University (IT) working on innovative electrochromic systems based on mixed valence compounds anchored on nanocrystalline wide band- gap semiconductors. In 2003 he was a Marie Curie fellow at National Microelectronic Research Centre (now Tyndall Institute) in Cork (IRL) studying low temperature transport mechanisms in gold nano-particle arrays in order to ultimately control their electrical characteristics by tuning their properties with photoactive linkers.

In 2004 he joined the Danish Polymer Centre at Risø-DTU working on the 3rd Generation Photovoltaic project, which consisted in the evaluation of alternative-to-silicon solar cells. In 2006 he received funding for a two-year “talent project” on development of extremely thin absorber solar cells (ETA).

Matteo is the co-inventor on three patent applications related to photovoltaic and solar cells, has contributed chapters in books and is co-author of numerous scientific publications related to photovoltaic and solar cells. He has also participated in several international conferences in the field of solar energy conversion and he is an invited speaker at the World Renewable Energy Conference (WREC-X). He has also been a reviewer on several scientific journals in the field of solar energy conversion.

Matteo works with IPR in the following technical fields:
